General Summary:
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the direction and coordination of hospital-wide activities related to infection prevention and control
measures and other activities to reduce the risks and incidence of hospital-acquired infections and to ensure a safe environment for patients,
employees and visitors. Collaborates with medical, clinical and ancillary staff to ensure compliance with infection prevention and control related
accreditation standards: federal, state and local regulations, and established professional guidelines and standards to promote high quality of
patient care and a safe environment.

Job Responsibilities:

Performs surveillance of all patients with identified potential for infection utilizing the most recent C DC guidelines for the detection of

hospital acquired (nosocomial) infections.

Develops surveillance program to include specific detailed reporting related to risk stratification and surgical wound infections.
Assures surveillance program meet the Joint Commission Standards and State surveillance programs.
Assures that rounds are made on all units for the purpose of case finding of nosocomial infections, compliance to Body Substance
Precautions/isolation practices and Infection Control Environment of C are Standards.
Reviews all daily bacteriological culture reports, bringing to the attention of Nurse Managers all observed trends and/or patients with

communicable diseases.

Assures that a log is established of all infected and/or colonized patients to assure for proper isolation and/or patient placement.
Communicates nosocomial data and related infection control problems to Infection Control Officer.
Accurately compiles statistics and prepares Infection Control summaries for appropriate committees, i.e. Infection Control Committee,

OR , Safety, Accreditation and Hospital-wide PI and other assigned committee as appropriate.

Initiates epidemiological investigations of all significant clusters of infection found to be above the expected level.
Performs environmental culturing of the environment as deemed necessary by the Infection Control Committee or its Chairman.
Recommends with input from Infection Control Officer changes in hospital/ medical staff operations designed to reduce

patient/employees risk and incidence of nosocomial infection. Facilitates implementation of these changes where appropriate. Monitors

the results to ensure continued effectiveness.

Conducts concurrent review of employee exposures and needlestick injuries. Reports all communicable diseases electronically through the Communicable Disease Reporting Surveillance System (C DRSS), as per
established standard.

Job Qualifications:

Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing; Associate Degree from an accredited College in a healthcare field; with a minimum of 5+ years of
healthcare experience. Bachelor Degree is strongly preferred. New Jersey RN State Licensure required. Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
preferred.

Ability to see within normal limits (including identification of color) with or without use of corrective devices
Ability to hear within normal range with or without corrective devices
Motor dexterity of hands and fingers
Ability to utilize proper body mechanics
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
Ability to bend, lift, move and pull frequently
Ability to lift at least 35 pounds without assistance
Ability to communicate in the English language orally and in writing
Ability to work in hot and cold areas
