As a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) at Maryville, you will be part of a great and dedicated team to assist and provide specialized expertise and a shared commitment to utilizing evidence-based practices for long-term recovery. Due to our staff’s education, experience, compassion and commitment, patients who have been served by Maryville consistently document high satisfaction levels with our programs and services. Our staff is committed to providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to implement behavioral interventions, social skill interventions, and support for patients to gain the necessary adaptive skills to be successful in recovery.
This individual’s responsibility is to help recovering patients from relapsing and promoting long term recovery. This person may assist with building sober networks, helping achieve stable housing and employment, and teaching effective problem-solving skills. This individual will help patients rebuild their lives by helping them to achieve stability in their substance use, mental illness, HIV/HCV, housing, employment, education, social connectivity, and other national outcome measures for substance use. In addition, this person may provide early intervention and reengagement into treatment for patients living in the community who are in early relapse stages of controlled substances.
Responsibilities:
Increases access to evidence-based treatment for patients of New Jersey with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders.
Meets with the patients for coaching at least weekly during the first six (6) months and then monthly in the remaining six (6) months.
Provides education and awareness with substance use disorders.
Provides recovery support for patients throughout their continuum of care and into the community for up to one year.
Assists the patients implement their recovery plans, connects them to services and self-help groups, and supports positive behavioral change.
Helps patients cope with stressful situations that could lead to relapse.
Assists patients progress through the stages of change to alter high-risk behaviors, model effective problem-solving skills, and provide on-going monitoring.
Develop and collect project data plan.
Implement GPRA at intake, discharge, and at the six (6) month mark of recovery.
Performs other related responsibilities and duties as required.
Education/Experience:
Associates Degree preferred. High School Diploma or GED required.
Must possess a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification upon hire.
At least three (3) years of experience working in a drug treatment non-profit environment with demonstrable results.
Valid driver’s license and car insurance is required. An MVR check will be completed upon hire.
Flexibility with weekend schedule is required.
Knowledge of the basic principles, philosophies, practices, and procedures involved at drug treatment facilities is required.
Knowledge of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders is required.
Must be able to develop a therapeutic relationship with patients while maintaining
therapeutic boundaries.
Familiar with a facility environment, primary functions performed, and an understanding of a patient’s levels of care.
Must be familiar with available funding sources in New Jersey.
Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills.
Ability to take initiative and use innovative techniques in preparing proposals.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, other
members of staff, outside agencies, institutions, and the general public.
Must possess excellent time management skills to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects.
Strong comprehension of regulations regarding agency licensure, contracts and
administration.
